Abstract

1,133,578. Hydromechanical gearing. T. HINDMARCH. 8 June, 1967 [9 Feb., 1967], No. 6185/67. Headings F2C and F2D. A marine propeller shaft 1 is driven by two engines through two input shafts 53, 54 within concentric hollow shafts 51, 52 carrying spur pinions 7, 8 meshing the main pinion 5 on the shaft 1, the remote ends of the drive shafts being connected by hydraulic couplings 22, 23. The remote ends of the input shafts 53, 54 are mounted in self-aligning bearings 55, 56 and the forward ends of the shafts are fitted with seals 62, 63.
