The closure member of a flow control valve is formed from a solid shank 10, having a head 11 at one end, and a plurality of longitudinal grooves 12 formed on its external periphery, the grooves being open at the end face 13 remote from the head 11 and decreasing in depth in the direction towards the head. Ribs 14, remaining between the grooves 12, lie with their outermost regions on the radius which the shank part, situated between head 11 and the inner ends of the grooves 12, possesses.
