Abstract

1,132,515. Monitoring thin films electrically. EDWARDS HIGH VACUUM INTERNATIONAL Ltd. Jan.27, 1967 [Jan.31, 1966], No.4131/66. Heading G1N. LAlso in Division H3] In a crystal oscillator comprising transistor T1, the emitter of which is connected to the common point of a pair of capacitors C1, 2 connected in series across the Piezo-electric crystal 1, the D. C. path for the emitter current of transistor T1 comprises the collector-emitter path of a further transistor T2. Transistor T1 is provided with collector circuit resistor R a capacitor C3 coupling its collector to the base of transistor T2 assists in ensuring oscillation with crystals having a wide range of activities. The arrangement is more particularly intended for monitoring the deposition of thin films under vacuum, and to protect the components from harmful effects which arise when the crystal is subject to space charges or plasmas inductance L and capacitor C5 are placed in parallel with the crystal, and a blocking capacitor C4 in the lead to the base of transistor T1.
