Abstract

817,319. Transistor generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. May 2, 1958, No. 14054/58. Class 40 (6). In a transistor oscillator, the output level is stabilized by connecting two oppositely-directed Zener diodes so as to be effectively in shunt with the output circuit of the oscillator. The oscillator shown comprises a tuned output circuit 10, 12 and a feed-back path comprising variable capacitor 17 and piezo-electric crystal 18, the frequency of oscillation being determined by the series resonance of components 17, 18 and the capacitor 12 being adjusted to tune the circuit 10, 12 to the same frequency. The amplitude of oscillation is limited to a value near the Zener breakdown voltage by means of Zener diodes 19, 20 connected in series across the circuit 10, 12. In addition, the crystal 18 may be replaced by an inductor in series with a capacitor or by a resistor; in the latter case the oscillation frequency is determined by the circuit 10, 12.
