Abstract

1,132,215. Boots &c. KOKOKU KAGAKU KOGYO , K.K 4 March, 1966 [27 Aug., 1965], No. 9493/66. Heading A3B [Also in Division B5] A shoe having a sole moulded from synthetic material is made by coating the walls of the mould used to form the sole with a paint containing a white pigment before the sole is moulded to the lasted shoe upper. The paint may contain other pigments so that the soles will not be white in colour. Preferably the sole is formed from a polyurethane foam and may contain a fibrous web. The white pigment may be zinc dust, lithopon or titanium dioxide. The pigment may be applied to the mould e.g. by brushing or spraying dispersed in a synthetic resin e.g. a polyacrylonitrile, polyamide, polyester or polyether or may be applied in a film of synthetic resin which is vacuum moulded to the mould walls, suitable materials for the film being polyacrylonitrile, a polyamide, polyvinyl chloride, a polyester resin or a polyurethane rubber. The material in which the pigment is dispersed preferably has a large dielectric loss, a high frequency electric field being used to heat the materials and cure the polyurethane.
