Abstract

1,131,709. Furniture joints; feet for furniture. AMCO ENG. CO. 24 May, 1966, No. 23052/66. Headings A4H and A4U. Aluminium building components for the construction of articles of furniture include interlocking members 12 having legs 20 secured within hollow rectangular edge struts 10 by locking plates 28 each seated in a pocket 26 and having upstanding tabs 34 which frictionally engage the inner surface of the strut. The plates are of substantially rigid metal having a base 30, seating on the base of the pocket, and side flanges 32 seating on the surface of the leg. The interlocking members have an abutment face for the end of a strut, and, when forming the corner of structure, locking plates are provided only on the leg surfaces which lies inward of the structure so that the joint is flush towards the outside thereof. Enclosing panels are bolted or clipped to flanges 44 which are inset for flush jointing, and may be supported by triangular gussets or reinforced by radio frequency interference wire mesh. In further modifications the interlocking member is formed as a hinge joint. The components include levelling feet and terminal members, which include a wallfixing device, having a part frictionally received in the end of a strut.
