Abstract

A modular system for making furniture and similar structures has a plurality of main parts constituted by tube-shaped sections. The section of each main part defines a series of faces, including at least one of which has coupling means for connecting a corresponding accessory of a series of accessories. The accessories are laminated sections provided with coupling means which complement the coupling means of the main parts; and provided with support means for holding the accessories stationary, or for permitting relative sliding movement. The laminated sections make it possible to extend and form the desired structure. The system is completed by a series of locking pieces that are connectible by fitting in the ends of the main parts. This improves the finish of the main parts, and permits two main parts to be connected together in order to increase the length of a structure.

Description

SPECIFICATION Modular system for the formation of structures of furniture and similar objects.
The present invention makes reference to a modular system for the formation of structures of furniture and similar objects.
In the formation of structures of furniture and similar objects, for example, tables, shelving, closets, display windows, etc. certain sections and parts with which the coupling of the laminated bodies by way of panels that form walls, shelves, doors and other components of the structures have been used for quite some time. Said sections and parts require the use of screws and fastening means, equivalent auxiliaries, whose use is certainly very disadvatageous due to the time required and the bother that the operations needed to place said means in the assembly, as well as their removal upon disassembling the structures when this is necessary as in the case of some pieces of furniture, such as shelving represent. The use of screws and similar objects entails several problems of laboriousness and time and because they turn out to be visible in detriment to the aesthetic aspect of the structures in question.
Said problems have been eliminated in a fully satisfactory manner with the modular system for the formation of structures of furniture and similar things which are the object of the present Patent of Invention with which the coupling and decoupling between the components of the structures are very easy and rapid with the need to use screws and similar objects whose absence improves the finish of said structures in a very outstanding manner.
The modular system which is the object of the present invention is characterized by the fact that it has a number of main parts made up of tube-shaped sections whose section describes a series of faces including at least one of the faces means of coupling for the fastening of the corresponding accessory of a series of accessories consisting preferably of laminated sections, provided with coupling means for their fastening to the means of coupling of the main parts and of means of support in order to be kept in a stationary position, and eventually a moveable one in a sliding manner, laminated bodies that make it possible to extend and form the desired structure.
And this is made complete by a series of locking pieces that are connectable to the ends of the main parts in order to improve their finish, and if the case may be, in order to allow for the extension connection oftwo main parts in order to increase the length of the same. The means of coupling the main parts and the means of connection of the accessories form a mutual coupling connection by fore-and-aft slipping. Likewise, the means of connection of the accessories consists of a longitudinal salient wing provided with drilled holes in order for it to be fastened to the adjacent surface of the face of the main part. In the same way, the means of connection of the accessories can be made up of two longitudinal salient wings, whose half connection span is applied against the face of the main element and said wings snap into the adjacent surfaces of said face.
As far as they are concerned, the locking pieces consist of a finish plate that acts as an entrance stop for the section of the main part and that from at least one of its faces a rib connectable inside said part projects. The object of the present invention is a modular system for the formation of structures that form some main parts that consist of L-section tube-shaped sections on whose faces especially the end faces there are longitudinal lodgins provided with the respective openings likewise longitudinal in the form of T-section grooves in which the salient portions of the corresponding section of accessories made up of laminated sections slide in, whose sections of the accessories have a grooved form in the shape of U stems opposite the salient portions for the connecting by slipping of the laminated bodies or panels that form walls, shelves, doors and similar parts in the structures. In accordance with the modular system of the present invention, the main tube-shaped sections can have an oblong section or else a substantially cross configuration, of which the first ones, in at least one of their faces, and the second ones in at least one of their end faces, can have the aforementioned T-section grooves in which said portions of the corresponding section of the accessories to which the laminated bodies are coupled fit. It is foreseen that said L-section tubeshaped sections, oblong or cross-shaped in place of the T-section grooves present grooves of another configuration for example dovetailed or of any other section, be it for example circular, rectangular, etc.In combination with the lodgings of the main sections, the present modular system includes some accessories that are provided with salient flanges of the corresponding section with the one of said lodgings with longitudinal openins by way of T grooves, circular dovetailed or another form. Likewise they remain provided like the tube-shaped sections having salients instead of grooves and in such a case the accessories have recesses instead of salient portions, of a configuration in correspondence. Said accessories consist of laminated section and include one or two wings opposite the salients that can be coupled to the main sections and allow the laminated bodies or panels to be fastened in order to form the structure in question.
The modular system object of the invention is made complete by the locking pieces that consist of both L-shaped, rectangular, oblong and rectangular cross shaped plates in correspondence with the section configuration of the tube-shaped sections, whose plates have one face a rib by way of a wick of the section corresponding to the one of said tubeshaped sections for fitting in the ends of said sections. The aforementioned plates are parts that improve the finish of the structures.
Said locking pieces include some plates that have the aforementioned forms corresponding to the one of the section of the tube-shaped sections and that have ribs or wicks in the two faces, whose ribs fit in both respective ends of the tube-shaped sections that hence are coupled in extension as has been indicated above, in order to increase the length of the sections in question. With the main tube-shaped parts, the accessories and the locking pieces of the finish as well as extension of the section, object of the modular system of the present invention one can form as many types of three-dimensional structures of furniture, display windows, etc. as one wishes to make, and the main parts, accessories and locking pieces can include as many modular pieces as are opportune.
It must be understood that in the practical construction of the modular system object of the present invention as many variations of detail as are considered opportune will be able to be made as long as they do not alter the essential features of the same that are summarized in the following claims.
