Abstract

1,131,377. Bearings; shafts. KOCKSWERMELSKIRCHEN G.m.b.H. 24 Aug., 1967 [13 Sept., 1966], No. 39084/67. Headings F2A and F2U. In a bearing assembly for a rolling mill, for example, a gear-wheel 8 is fixed on to a rotary shaft 2 which is supported in a housing 1 by bearings 3 and, in replacing the bearings, the gear-wheel 8, having a projection 11, is moved axially by means of a number of equi-spaced screws 16, Fig. 2, for example, the projection 11 being received by a recess 12 in the housing 1 and the gear-wheel and shaft being held in coaxial relationship with the axes of the bearing 3. The shaft 2 and bearings 3 are then removed, new bearings are provided and replaced with the shaft and the screws 16 are replaced by short screws 15, Fig. 1. The bearings 3 are retained axially by means of a collar 4 on the shaft 2, a spacer 5 and cover-plates 6, 7. In another embodiment a pair of gear-wheels are mounted on a bush which is fixed to a rotary shaft and is provided with a projection which is received by a recess in the housing. In a further embodiment a pair of gear-wheels are mounted on a hub which rotates on a non-rotating shaft, the hub being provided with a projection which is received in a recess of the housing.
