1,130,789. Holding and picking-up tools. M. M. McPHAIL. 4 Sept., 1967 [5 Sept., 1966], No. 39566/66. Heading B4W. A hand-held gripping tool, e.g. for removing a person from contact with a live electrical conductor or for controlling an animal, comprises two substantially S-shaped arms 1, 2 pivoted at 3 which form two loops 4, 5 in the closed position, the ends 6 of the arms forming one loop overlapping and being provided with ratchet-teeth. The other end is provided with abutting wooden portions 7 which in use are closed around the object to be controlled, the overlapping ends 6 being used as a handle. The device is preferably made from beech-wood and covered with rubber.
