1,130,560. Feeding tobacco. SERVICE D'EXPOLOITATION INDUSTRIELLE DES TABACS ET DES ALLUMETTES. 10 Dec., 1965 [10 Dec., 1964], No. 52505/65. Heading A2C. Small sample lots of cigarettes are manufactured on a standard type of machine by disconnecting the distributer, substituting a smaller distributer which will operate with less than a kilo of tobacco, and running the machine at a reduced speed of 300-600 cigarettes a minute. A suitable small distributer comprises rollers 1, 2 for feeding tobacco to a hopper 13, 14 having a reciprocating compression member 8 and photo-electric devices 9, 10, for controlling the level of tobacco in the hopper. A further series of rollers 3, 4, 5 and 7 and combs 6 supply the tobacco to a conveyer 11 which delivers it to a conveyer 12 feeding a cigarette making machine, the speed of operation of which is adjusted, e.g. by reduction gear, to suit the tobacco supply.
