1,130,422. Disc brakes. SOC. ANON. FRANCAISE DU FERODO. 28 Jan., 1966 [28 Jan., 1965; 11 Jan, 1966], No. 3972/66. Heading F2E. In a disc brake of the floating-caliper type, a fixed brake frame 10 which supports a floating frame 28 for movement transverse to the plane of a disc 20 to be braked has demountably secured to it, by screws 17, a pad bearer 16 having two flanges 18, 19, apertured to receive pads 23, 24 which are engageable with opposite faces of the disc by the operation of a cylinder 11 containing at least one piston acting directly on pad 23, the reaction force being caused to act on the floating frame to apply the other pad 24. Preferably the cylinder 11 is formed in the fixed frame and contains two pistons 12, 13, piston 12 acting directly on the pad 23 while piston 13 acts on the floating frame to apply pad 24. A cylindrical projection 29 on piston 13 engages an aperture 30 in the floating frame to locate the adjacent end of the latter, while a guide plate 35 which is detachable together with the bearer 16 engages its central portion. A screw 36 formed with a peg 32 is carried by the opposite end of the floating frame and engages an aperture 26 in the backing plate of pad 24. In a modification (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown), the screw 36 and apertures 26 are dispensed with, the plate 35 being enlarged and having a portion engageable with a slot (136) in the floating frame.
