Abstract

112,951. St. Helens Cable & Rubber Co., and White, J. C. July 4, 1916. Couplings.-In supporting a load, such as an electric lamp holder, by an electric cable, the insulating sheathing 2 of the cable is separated from the conductors 4, 5 and the end portion turned back and clamped between a collar 7 slipped over the cable and a flange or the like 8 on the article to be supported whereby the conductors are relieved from strain. The drawing shows the application to a plug, the unstrained conductors being connected to terminals 6. The collars 7 may have parallel sides or be of pearshaped section: the sheathing being clamped by serewing-up the cap 9. A rubber or like washer 12 is preferably inserted between the cap and the collar. The plug contacts 16 are shown protected by a cover 14. It is stated in the Provisional Specification that the arrangement is applicable to junction-boxes and the like, ceiling roses, portable electric apparatus, &c.
