Abstract
1,128,569. Endless conveyers. A. T. KORNYLAK. 5 Oct., 1966 [21 Oct., 1965; 26 Sept., 1966], No. 44432/66. Heading B8A. Shelves 29 on which articles are elevated, e.g. from the hold of a ship, are rotatably supported between two endless chains 15 and have members 49 engaging in guideways 45-48, whereby the shelves are maintained substantially horizontal during the load-carrying movement but are turned to be substantially vertical during the return movement. The shelves are mounted on stub shafts 30 rotatable in bearings 31 intermediate the ends of special chain links 32 connected to the ordinary chain links 33, 34 by pivot pins 29 engageable by upper drive sprockets 14 and lower idler sprockets 13. The axes of the stub-shafts 30 are in substantially the same plane as the axes of the pivot pins 29 during the vertical movement of said chains 15 and the sprockets 13, 14 have extra deep pivot pin pockets 44 to accommodate the stub-shafts 30, whereby said axis of the stub-shafts lie on substantially the pitch circle diameter of the sprockets. The sprockets 13, 14 may have one, two, or three of said extra deep pivot pockets 44 or alternatively (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown) the said pockets 44 may alternate with the normal pivot pin pockets 42 to provide an even greater variation of the spacing of the shelves. Also attached to the stub-shafts 30 are the means 49 for controlling the attitude of the shelves 29, each comprises a bell-crank 49 with rollers 52, 53 at the extremities of the arms 50, 51 to engage in the guideway 45-48. The conveyer apparatus is mounted within a housing 11 having loading and unloading openings adjacent the upper and lower ends of the front and rear walls, which openings are closed by fire-proof doors D 1-3 and the housing itself has a fire-proof outer coating (200), Fig. 12 (not shown).
