Heading G3H A fluid regulating device comprises a chamber 10 provided with inlet and outlet 14, 16 for a supply fluid, a number 18 which receives fluid through inlet 24 and produces a vortex in chamber 10, an outer chamber 33 and a tube 38 which is located in the path of the jet issuing from chamber 10 and is provided with a pressure gauge 44. When the device operates as an amplifier, inlet 24 receives a two part supply of pressure fluid, one part of which is of constant pressure and is arranged to bias the device to operate on the straight line part of the operating curve Fig. 3 (not shown) and the other part of which is of variable pressure and produces corresponding variations in the pressure within tube 38. In a modification Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) the device has a porous annulus 74 (e. g. of steel tubes) arranged between number 18 and chamber 10, and is used as a rate of roll sensor on an aircraft. In another modification Fig. 8 (not shown) the device is used to produce pulses, the frequency of which are proportional to the pressure applied to inlet 24. In further modifications (not shown) the device is used to gauge liquid level in chamber 33 and, by closing outlet 35 and removing plug 42, it can be used to regulate the supply of fluid into either a rocket nozzle or a cylinder of a piston engine.
