A drawer-and-shell type box for matches is moulded from plastics material and comprises a shell 1 having side walls 8 with inwardlydirected and upwardly-turned flanges along their lower edges which slide into grooves (6), Fig. 3 (not shown) along the lower edges of the drawer. A match-striking surface 9 is provided on one side wall 8 of the cover 1. Protuberances &c. on the drawer and shell may interengage to hold the box in one or more open positions. The drawer &c. may be chamfered at one or both ends to facilitate its insertion into the shell. A distinguishing knob &c. may be provided on the outside of the drawer or shell.
