Abstract
1,127,385. Automatic exchange systems. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 8 July, 1966 [13 July, 1965], No. 30758/66. Heading H4K. [Also in Division H1] In a multistage cross-bar switching network, the hold magnets are held by remanence. The magnet cores may be made of a combination of hard and soft magnetic materials or some of the turns of the magnet coils may be coupled to each other via diodes such that, overall, the magnet's characteristic is asymmetric whereby in the " on " position its core is saturated whereas in the " off " position the core is unsaturated. In the simple three stage network shown, the hold magnets selected by the marker are pulsed over leads 116 &c. with a positive voltage which is sufficient to saturate the magnet cores. A metallic sleeve wire path is thus completed between the subscribers line circuit, cut-off relay CO and the trunk circuit sleeve relay SL, the marker maintaining earth potential on leads 116 at this time. Supervisory relay S comes up to hold CO and SL to ground potential and to release the marker. At the end of the call, S falls back whereby negative potential via CO and SL pulses hold magnets 115 and 118 to bring about their release. Magnet 117 may or may not release but since ground potential has been removed from the sleeve wire it will be automatically released and test free on the next occasion that the marker applies negative test potential to its lead 140.
