Abstract

1,127,374. Dyeing synthetic materials. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 2 Jan.. 1967 [19 Jan., l966], No. 49/67. Heading D1B. Synthetic textile materials made of polyesters, cellulose acetate. or polyamides are dyed by treating in a first stage with a substantially water-insoluble enol or phenol complex compound of copper, nickel, zinc or cobalt and then in a second stage with a pyrolenine followed by a thermal treatment to produce a porphyrazine on the fibre. In particular the pyrrolenine may be of formula in which R, and R, are substituents which may be linked to form a ring e.g. C 1 -C 6 alkyl radicals, or R 1 and R 2 may be joined to form an aromatic ring containing hetero atoms e.g. sulphur and nitrogen, R 3 is an amino group or an alkoxy group of 1-3 carbon atoms, R 4 and R 5 are methoxy or ethoxy groups or together form an imino group or a dionolane cycle. Benzopyrrolenines may also be used which contain in the benzene nucleous one or two alkoxy groups which may contain further substituents e.g. hydroxyl groups. The pyrrolenines may be used in admixture. Mixtures of the above mentioned synthetic materials with cotton are also dyed, a water-soluble organic or inorganic Cu. Ni Zn or Co compound being used for the cotton components. The metal complexes may be applied in neutral to weakly acid suspension at 90-130‹C. The thermal heat treatment may take the form of a thermorol process at 140-215‹C to produce the porphyrazine in situ. Acid or alkaline baths containing a reducing agent may be used as aftertreatment. In Example 4 polyamide material is printed with a reserve paste containing ZnO, crystal gum and diethylene triamine the fabric then being dyed as above.
