Abstract

1,126,886. Rotary vacuum pumps. GENEVAC Ltd. Oct. 18, 1966 [Oct. 18, 1966], No. 46455/66. Heading F1F. An oil-sealed rotary vacuum pump comprising an oil reservoir 10, Figs. 1, 2 and a pump chamber 11 inter-connected by a duct 20, includes an oil filled chamber 13 housing spaced apart discs 15, 16 secured to an extension of the pump shaft 12 and a freely rotating intermediate disc 18 formed with a notch 28 engaging the lower end of a plunger 27. The upper end of the plunger 27 engages a spring- loaded floating bar 22 carrying a rubber valve disc 23 controlling the duct 20. When the pump is operative, the discs 15 and 16 are rotated and the resulting oil drag rotates the disc 18 in the direction of the arrow A thereby to raise the plunger 27 and lift the bar 22 against its springs to unseat the valve 23 to allow oil to feed to the pump chamber. When the pump stops, oil drag ceases and the valve 23 becomes seated to prevent oil being sucked into the system being evacuated.
