Abstract
1,126,826. Supporting pipes; valves. MUELLER CO. 19 Nov., 1966, No. 51914/66. Headings F2P and F2V. [Also in Divisions B3, B4 and G1] An installation for a meter such as a gas meter 20 comprises an inlet valve 46, an outlet valve 38 and a by-pass line 150 connectible between by-pass ports 70 and 134 in the valves 46 and 38 respectively. With the valve 46 in its open position, gas passes from the inlet line 44 through the meter 20 and out through a line 42, the port 70 being closed by a tamper proof plug. In order to remove the meter without affecting the pressure in the line 42, a plug remove tool 152 is screwed into engagement with the port 70 and a fitting 154 is connected to the port 134. A shaft is screwed into engagement with the plug by rotating a knob 197 whilst rotation of an arm 191 withdraws the plug thus allowing gas to enter the line 150. Air is removed from the line 150 by a bleed valve 157 and the valve 38 is adjusted to connect the line 42 to the line 150, which adjustment simultaneously blocks the outlet of the meter. The valve 46 is then closed to block the connection between the lines 40, 44 and the gas meter may be removed. The valve 46 comprises a body 52 having a tapered valve seat 54 and inlet and outlet ports 56 and 58 respectively. A tapered plug 85 having lubricating channels 88 and a passageway 87 is rotatably mounted in the seat 54. 0-rings '86 seal the plug in its seat and a false port 84 in the plug aligns with false port in the seat 54. The false ports eliminate surfaces exposed to gas which may corrode these surfaces. The valve is closed by rotating an extension 100 through 90 degrees in which position apertures on lock wings attached to the body and the upper end of the plug 85 are aligned. A device such as a padlock may be inserted in the apertures to lock the valve in its closed position.
