Abstract

1,126,428. Electrical connector. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 24 April, 1967 [20 July, 1966], No. 18731/67. Heading H2E. An electrical connector 17 for repetitively making high energy connections to an insulated conductor comprises a first stationary jaw 25, a second jaw 26 movably supported relative to the first jaw, each jaw having a contact portion 31, 34, formed with a plurality of teeth 32, 33 for biting the conductor, extending across the contact portion in parallel relationship, the teeth 32 on the stationary jaw having their cutting edges facing in one direction and the teeth 33 on the moving jaw having their cutting edges facing in the opposite direction, and a spring 40 associated with the moving jaw 26 to urge this jaw in one direction relative to the insulated conductor on one side and to force the other side of the insulated conductor against the teeth of the stationary jaw so that the conductor is bitten into on both sides. Two such connectors 17, 18 are mounted on a support block 19 attached to a table, and are actuated by a pedal actuated pneumatically driven push block 23 acting on the spring assembly 28. The contact portions of the connectors are made of steel file segments having a Rockwell C hardness of not less than 65 and not more than 75, and the teeth of the moving jaw bite the insulated conductor at an angle of not less than 5 degrees and not more than 15 degrees. Circuit connections are made from the jaws, as depicted in Fig. 3 (not shown), by means of conductor bases 30, 35 and flexible leads (52, 53) which are joined with the supply lead (54) at a terminal (55). The contact portions are attached to the conductor bases by soft soldering.
