Belt gearing.-A magnetic pulley for causing adhesion to an iron or steel belt is provided with helical steel or wrought-iron projections C D, between which are insulated coils for conveying electricity from insulated contact rings G H. The current runs in opposite directions in alternate coils to produce North and South pole faces in alternate projections C, D. The periphery of the pulley may be built up of annular disks or segments of iron or steel. In cases when a shaft is driven from two other shafts of higher speed, such as a marine propeller shaft driven from high and low pressure turbines, a single belt V engages a magnetic pulley S on the propeller shaft and magnetic pulleys T, U, on the turbine Ac. shafts.
