Surfaces of aluminium and alloys thereof are lubricated with a composition comprising mineral oil and a salt of formula M[(RO) 2 PS 2 ] n , where R is an alkyl group, M is divalent lead, molybdenum, zinc or nickel or monovalent copper and n is the valency of M. The composition may contain phenothiazine and may be thickened to a grease with lithium stearate.
