Abstract

1,125,710. Cutting foods into blocks. T. REIFENHAœSER. 6 Jan., 1967 [8 Jan., 1966], No. 959/67. Heading A4C. A block-cutting machine for bacon, sausage and other mouldable foodstuffs in which a piston moves in a horizontally arranged magazine to urge the material to be cut towards the cutting mechanism, is characterized by the magazine having at least two chambers having a longitudinally open side for loading the foodstuff and means for closing said side, the magazine being rotatable about its longitudinal central axis. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, the magazine 1 can rotate about axis 4, chamber 3 being in the operative position and the lid 5 of chamber 2 being the open position forming a guide for material being tipped in from container 8 which is elevated by means of a plate or frame 7. The latter may itself be shaped to form a supply container. A lid bolting device (not shown) hinged on the opposite edge of the magazine to lid 5 may be shaped to complete with the lid a hopper to aid filling. Inthe embodiments of Figs. 3 and 7, the magazine 1 is lidless and rotates within a cylindrical housing 10 having a feed opening 9, at the top in the former case and at the side in the latter. In the latter case a plunger 11 pushes the material into the magazine and seals it, projection 12 serving to cut off the filling portion from the remainder of the material.
