Abstract

1,125,406. Coating substrates with polybutadiene. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 16 Feb., 1966 [6 March, l965], No. 6702/66. Headings B2E and B2K. [Also in Division C3] A method of coating a surface comprises applying to the surface a polybutadiene prepared by polymerising butadiene in the presence of a catalyst comprising a compound of a metal of Group VIII of the Mendeleeff Periodic Table, an organometallic compound of aluminium, and a tertiary amine and/or an organic nitrile in which the nitrile radical is attached to an aliphatic group. The polybutadiene may be applied as such, in a solution in an organic solvent, or in aqueous dispersion, and may include the usual additives, e.g. drying agents, polymerisable monomers, organic peroxides, accelerators, sulphur, and pigments. The exemplified coatings are obtained by brushing the polybutadiene or composition thereof onto surfaces of glass, steel, brass, cardboard, plaster and wood.
