Abstract

1,134,172. Polyurethane coatings. SOHERING A.G. 27 Jan., 1966 [29 Jan., 1965], No. 3710/66. Headings B2E and B2K. [Also in Division C3] Polyurethane lacquers including as one component a material obtained by reaction of (a) a di- and/or poly-hydric alcohol obtained by catalytic hydrogenation of a dimeric or oligomaric fatty acid or lower alkyl ester thereof with (b) less than the equivalent amount of a di- or tri-isocyanate; and as another component, a di- and/or tri-isocyanate or a preaddition product of an excess of such a di- or tri-isocyanate with a di- and/or poly-hydric alcohol, exhibit good adhesion to various substrates, e.g. wood, metals such as iron, steel and aluminium, glass, stone, concrete, plastics, rubber and other substances of rubber-like elasticity, paper or fabrics. They may be applied by brushing, spraying or dipping as primers or undercoats, or as topcoats. The surfaces to be lacquered may be pre-treated in the usual way. In the example, a lacquer is applied to a substrate, and after evaporation of the solvent, is hardened overnight and aged for 2 hours at 100‹C.
