A process for preparing surface coating compositions with insecticidal properties, characterized in that it comprises mixing, in a surface coating composition selected from painting, tempering, colored grout including lime slurry, varnish and lacquer compositions, but excluding the compositions of printing ink, adapted to be applied by brush, roller or spray on a surface to be protected or painted, from 0.2 to 7.5% by weight of an insecticidal component chosen from pyrimiphos-methyl or pyrimiphos-ethyl, said insecticide component having the form of (a) a technical material that is practically solvent-free, (b) an aqueous suspension of microencapsulated pyrimiphos-methyl or pyrimiposethyl or (c) a concentrated aqueous pyrimiphos-methyl or pyrimiphos-ethyl emulsion.
