Abstract

1,215,286. Instrument coating. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. 9 June, 1969, No. 29131/69. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] Substrates of metal, wood, glass, plastics and ceramics are coated with an intumescent paint comprising an non aqueous solvent, a film forming resin, which decomposes on heating or burning to yielded carbon melamine hydrohalide (I) and a fluxing agent for I, e.g. ZnO. An exemplified composition comprises epoxy resin, diaminodiphenylsulphone (hardener), melamine hydrobromide and ZnO. Another carbon producing substance, e.g. pentaerythritol, may be present in the composition. An example relates to the coating of the metallic inner surface of the jet engine.
