Abstract
In a method of producing an alumina to metal seal, the alumina is metallized by applying a powdered mixture of TiC on TiN and Mo in a vehicle such as nitrocellulose lacquer and sintering at 1450-1900 DEG C. in an atmosphere of moist hydrogen which has a dew point near 4 DEG C. The metallized layer is coated with Ni which is then brazed to a metal component.ALSO:An alumina body is metallized by applying a powdered mixture of TiC or TiN and Mo in a vehicle such as nitrocellulose lacquer and sintering at 1450-1900 DEG C. in an atmosphere of moist hydrogen which has a dew point over 4 DEG C. The preferred metallizing mixture contains 5-40% of TiC or TiN and the balance Mo and is applied by painting or spraying to give a coating of 20-50 mgms. per sq. cm.ALSO:An alumina body is metallized by applying a powdered mixture of TiC or TiN and Mo in a vehicle such as nitrocellulose lacquer and sintering at 1450-1900 DEG C. in an atmosphere of moist hydrogen which has a dew point over 4 DEG C.
