Abstract
1,124,209. Feeding sheets. F. M. LUTZNER. 9 Nov., 1966, No. 50224/66. Heading B8S. ' Cardboard sheets are fed from a stack to a pair of rollers preceding a sheet processing machine and simultaneously accelerated to the speed of transport of the rollers by a rotating body disposed above or below the stack and which carries on its surface a spiral ridge forming a continuous point of contact with the edge of the bottom or top sheet in the stack remote from the feed rollers. In a preferred embodiment, Fig. 1, a stack 2 of superimposed cardboard sheets 1 is carried on stacking device 3. Two truncated cones 4 rotate beneath stack 3 and are disposed with their generatrices 5 lying approximately on the bottom surface of stack 2. The cones may be mounted with their truncated surfaces 6 facing each other (as shown) or with their base surfaces 7 facing each other. On the peripheral surface of each truncated cone 4 is a spiral ridge 8 having a constant or variable pitch. Rotatable roller 9 carries an axial ridge 91. A pair of feed rollers 10 follow the stacking device 3 and precede a sheetprocessing machine (not shown). On rotation of cones 4 and roller 9, sheet 1<SP>1</SP> is accelerated in the direction of rollers 10 by virtue of the engagement of its rear edge by ridges 8 and 91. After one revolution of cones 4 the sheet reaches the speed of, and is engaged by, rollers 10. A plurality of such pairs of truncated cones may be disposed side by side with their appertaining rollers along the rear edge of the topmost or bottom-most sheet or alternatively a plurality of similarly directed truncated cones but oppositely directed each side of the centre of the width of the stack of sheets with a roller between each two successive truncated cones may be provided. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3) the rotating body is constituted by a disc arranged parallel to the top or bottom surface of the stack and carrying on the side facing the stack a spiral adapted to engage the rear edge of the bottom or top sheet.
