Abstract

An austenitic stainless steel comprises <TABS:1123577/C6-C7/1> the balance being iron apart from impurities and is characterized by a cold work hardening factor [C.W.H.F. = 13.8 - 0.733 (%Ni) + 0.0182 (%Ni)2 + 0.688 (%Cr) - 0.113 (%Mn) - 0.427 (%Cu) + 2.17 (%C + %N)] within the range 6.9 - 9.9. The steel is especially useful in internal combustion engines using "doped fuels".
