Abstract

1,122,441. Hydraulic reciprocating motors and pumps. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. Aug.13, 1965 [Aug.15, 1964; Nov.20, 1964], Nos. 33412/64 and 47458/64. Heading F1A. A ball piston motor or pump comprises a rotating cylinder block 10 with radial cylinders 19 and ball pistons 9 engaging a multi-lobed cam track 21, the contour of which is stated to produce constant motor power output or pump input, each half lobe of the cam track being contoured to produce three phases of motion for each ball piston, constant acceleration, constant velocity and constant deceleration, thrust variations during the acceleration and deceleration periods being balanced out by oppositely phased thrust variations of another ball piston over the appropriate sections of a half lobe of the cam track. Formulae for calculating the lobe contour are given. Distribution is by a stationary pintle valve 25.
