Abstract

1,120,949. Railway vehicle undercarriages. STEWARTS & LLOYDS Ltd. 9 Sept., 1965 [22 Sept., 1964], No. 38683/64. Heading B7L. A crane having double flanged running wheels (not shown) engaging track rails 2, Fig. 2, is laterally guided by opposed pairs of rollers 8, 8 which bear against the opposite sides of each rail, each pair of rollers 8, 8 being carried by a bar 7 slidable transversely of the crane structure and connected by a piston rod 6 to a piston 5 slidable in an hydraulic cylinder 4, opposed cylinders 4 being cross-connected by pipes 9 and 10 or 9a and 10a so that lateral movement of one pair of rollers 8, 8 causes the opposed pair of rollers to move through a substantially equal distance in the opposite direction relative to the crane structure. Adjustment of the bars 7, for centralizing, is achieved by opening a normally closed valve disposed in a pipe connecting the pipe 9 and 10 (or 9a and 10a). Each hydraulic system has a primary reservoir connected thereto through a non-return valve. In another embodiment the opposed bars 7 are interconnected by a mechanical linkage, Fig. 6 (not shown).
