A woodwool slab for a roofing or ceiling structure is rectangular in plan view and rebated along its longitudinal edges 11, 12. The slab may be 6 feet long, between 1 and 2 feet wide and 2 inches in depth, and the rebates extend 1 inch from the edges and have a depth of 1 inch. The rebates are formed on the upper side of one edge and the lower side of the other so that when a number of slabs are arranged side-by-side, the rebates interengage and prevent a bituminous sealant when applied over the slabs from penetrating the gaps between the slabs.
