Abstract
1,118,941. Underfeed stokers; preventing emission of smoke. HODGKINSON BENNIS Ltd. 10 May, 1966 [11 May, 1965], No. 19743/65. Heading F4B. An underfeed stoker comprises a screw 6 operating in a tube 14 extending from the firepot 4 across the bottom of a fuel hopper 8. The tube encloses the part of screw 6 within the hopper save for an aperture 16 in the tube 14. Air is fed to the fire-pot from a duct 24, a secondary air duct 34 and an air duct 30 extending from the upper part of the forced draught duct 24, the inlets to the ducts 30, 34 facing the direction of air flow in the duct 24 and being controlled by sliding dampers. The screw 6 may have a portion of reduced diameter adjacent the aperture 16, and the tube 14 may be rotated to vary the effective size of the aperture 16.
