Abstract
1,118,134. Packaging-machine. GENERAL FOODS CORP. 2 Nov., 1965, No. 46406/65. Heading B8C. An apparatus for feeding semi-solid bodies, e.g. potato cakes 12 in layers into containers, comprises a conveyer 10 which feeds the bodies on to supports 21 and co-operating fingers 33 which push the bodies off the supports into the containers which are fed to positions 20a, 20b, 20c, 20d adjacent the supports 21 by a pair of conveyers 15, 16. Guides (28), (29), Fig. 5 (not shown), may be provided at the sides of the supports 21 to hold the bodies in position. The bodies 12 are then removed from the supports 21 and pushed into the containers by the fingers 33 which are mounted on a bar 34 which is rigidly connected to a web 46 fixed on bearing blocks 39, 41. The reciprocating movement of the fingers is effected by a pneumatic servo 35 which causes the fingers 33 to move the bodies horizontally off the supports so that they fall into the containers. When the bodies are in the -containers, pneumatic servo 48 is activated and the bar 34, to which the fingers are fixed, is raised. The servo 35 then causes the assembly to move back to its initial position. When the servo 48 releases the bar 34, it is biased downwards by a spring (61), Fig. 4 (not shown). The fingers 33 are then pushed behind the succeeding row of bodies 12. The inner two containers in the positions 20a, 20c are ejected down shoots 72 by pusher plates rigidly connected to a pneumatic servo (83) by a piston rod (82) and a U-shaped frame (80). The filled containers are moved away from .the shoots 72 along conveyer belts 75. The containers in the outer positions 20b, 20d .are then released permitting them to be moved to the positions previously occupied by the inner containers 20a, 20c, where the remain until ejected by the pushers. In this inner position another body 12 is fed on to the body previously fed into each container in its outer position. Sheets of waxed paper are fed between the bodies in each container either by hand or automatically.
