The latter are reciprocated by a linear motor mechanism. The container is also projected by linear motor mechanism to a position corresponding to the pair of partitions between which discharge is to be effected. After ejection, each article is delivered by a shoot 85 to an endless conveyer belt 86. In a modification Fig. 1 (not shown), the articles are ejected directly on to the belt 86 by a pusher (8) on the belt which enters the base of the space between the partitions. In another modification Figs.9 and 10 (not shown), subsidiary slides (93), each partitioned for individual articles) are slidable vertically between each pair of partitions b so that each separate article can be retrieved selectively. Endless belts (71), (72) Figs.6 and 7, (not shown) may be provided for transferring a complete container c to another location. The endless belts may be replaced by a linear motor mechanism Figs. 3-5, (not shown). The partitions b may be replaced by racks 135, 136 Figs.13 and 14 on which articles 144 are suspended. The container c is projected to a selected position corresponding to a desired article and the latter is removed by the action of a conveyer pusher 138. In Figs.11 and 12b, containers 101 (corresponding to containers c in Fig. 8) are selectable from cabinets 100, 104, on either side of a conveyer 108 so as to discharge articles on to the latter. The articles are fed into pockets 115 which are formed as shown in Fig.12b. The pockets are labelled at 126, are sealed at 127, and are severed at 128. The operations are controlled by a computer 109 having a control panel 110.
