Abstract

1,117,276. Electric light fittings. PRESTON INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH Ltd. 14 April, 1967 [14 Jan., 1966], No. 1923/66. Heading F4R. A twin-source lighting unit of the type comprising a circular discharge tube 2 and an incandescent ballast lamp 8 is provided with an annular reflector 18 to direct the light from the tube obliquely outwards and an annular light diffuser 25 which surrounds the outside of the tube and is supported by the reflector. The lamp 8 is mounted in a cylindrical housing 1 the lower part of which has flutes 9, and radial arms 3 extend from the housing and are terminated by hollow brackets 17 (Figure 3) which are connected to the arms by inwardly directed tags 19 and contain shoes 22 carrying spring loaded pivoted elements 23 which bear against and retain the tube. The brackets 17 extend through apertures in the reflector 18 and have outwardly directed shoulders 21 which engage the front face of the reflector and retain it in position. The arms 3 are hollow to contain the electrical connections to the tube and are provided with lids 13, and the diffuser 25 has an inwardly directed flange 26 which rests on the rim of the reflector.
