Abstract
675,965. Fluorescent lamp fittings. CLARKE, CHAPMAN & CO., Ltd., THOMPSON, T., and POTTS, E. L. J. July 18, 1950 [April 22, 1949], No. 10773/49. Classes 75(ii) and 75(iv) In a lighting fitting using bent circularsection fluorescent tubing 29, with adjacent terminals 32, supported on a base 11 with a circular specular reflector 27 arranged between the base 11 and the tubing 29, the reflector has a radial section comprising an inner parabolic or concave portion 27a and an outer cycloidal portion 27b produced by a point within a circle of the same diameter as the circular section of the tubing. As shown the base 11 has two adjacent compartments 13, 14, one 13 opening upwardly and closable by a cover 16 and the other 14 opening downwardly and housing lamp sockets 33 to receive the upwardly bent ends of a circularly bent fluorescent tube 29. The chamber 13 houses the circuit equipment and terminals 23, the latter extending through to the underside of the base 11 whence they are connected via leads 34 with the sockets 33. A flame-proof cable gland provides for the entry of a supply cable to the chamber 13. The tube 29 is supported from the base 11 by spaced transparent hangers 30 secured to a rib 26, the latter supporting also the reflector 27. A glass or plastic bowl 35 is mounted in a ring 36 which is hinged to the base 11 and also screwed thereto to enclose the tube 29 in a flameproof manner. The tube 29 may comprise two or more bent sections.
