Abstract

1,117,233. Laminates. BURY & MASCO INDUSTRIES Ltd. 15 Nov., 1965 [15 Aug., 1964], No. 33415/64. Heading B5N. Material to be treated to simulate natural leather comprises a carrier layer which exhibits elasticity in all directions and on to which is needled, preferably on both sides, at least one reinforcement in the form of a non-woven batt which modifies the properties of the carrier to result in a composite material having a resistance to tensile strain which increases under load. The carrier may be knitted, netted or bobbin netted fabric, foamed material or synthetic material or a structure produced from elastomeric fibres. The carrier may be impregnated with a resinous or elastomeric filler. The reinforced layers may comprise a needled web or webs of fibres consisting of natural, synthetic or regenerated fibres or a blend of any two or more of such types of fibre. In an example the carrier comprises bobbin netted polyester and the reinforced layers are four inch long polyester fibres.
