Abstract
Steel free of Si and Al for continuous casting is produced by applying a vacuum to the steel within the refining vessel after refining is completed to degas and kill the steel. As shown, a refining vessel such as a converter 1 is connected with an evacuating duct 3 of a vacuum chamber <PICT:1116958/C6-C7/1> by an annular seal 4 co-operating with a cooled mouth ring 5 on the converter.
