Abstract

<PICT:0903411/III/1> A rod 8 is pulled from a melt in a bowl-shaped crucible 2 connected by a conduit 6 to a cylindrical reservoir 3, melt being forced from the reservoir to the crucible by upward movement of a piston 4. An area of more intensive heating is provided by the presence of two annular chambers 11 and 12 between the crucible and the reservoir. The crucible, conduit, reservoir, and annular chambers are formed in a graphite cylinder 1 surrounded by an induction heating coil 7. The clearance between the cylindrical reservoir and the piston may be 0,1 m.m. Specification 903,412 is referred to.
