Flash signals; visible non- luminous signals; luminouspaint signals.-A portable telephone and signalling set comprises telephone instruments 5, 6 and a buzzer 10 for oral communication or buzzer signalling, an electrically-operated shutter 11 and lamp 13 for flash signalling, and means for signalling by exposing a white surface 28, which may be covered with luminous paint for night use. The Morse key 9 is used for both flash and buzzer signalling. The shutter 11 is moved to open and close an aperture in the casing by electromagnets 16a, 16<b> connected to the front and back contacts of the Morse key 9. A multiple switch 18 connects in the circuit the different apparatus as required; in the position in which it lights the lamp, it also closes the circuit of the magnet 16b so as to lock the shutter closed. A switch 19 serves to connect in one or more resistance coils 20 or separate cells so as to vary the strength of the current as required. The battery 23 is supported by slotted terminal brackets at the side of the case, the lid 3 being provided with a shield 3<a> for protecting and holding tight the battery terminals. For disk signalling the front part 2 of the case is provided with a white surface 23 which may be coated with luminous paint, this being covered by a thin sheet of transparent or waterproof material. The surface is moved into display position by a handle 29 which also serves as a fastening engaging a catch 29a on the lid. In a modified form, the front part of the case is double so that when the surface 28 is moved into display position as in Fig. 1 it exposes a second white surface of similar area.
