Abstract

A sealing strip comprises a resiliently compressible core surrounded by a layer of waterproof pressure sensitive adhesive from 1/32 to 1 inch thick. The pressure sensitive adhesive may be a bituminous rubber composition, e.g. natural or synthetic rubber such as polychloroprene, butyl rubber, oil based mastic, rosin or rosin derivatives. The core may be of foamed natural or synthetic rubber, or a foamed synthetic polymer e.g. polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride, polychloroprene, polyethylene or butyl rubber. The cross-sectional area of the strip may be the same as that of a circle of diameter 1/4 to 6 inches. The strip may be of circular or rectangular cross-section. The strip may be formed by coating the core with a hot adhesive composition or by cold-extension of the adhesive composition around and onto the core. The sealing strip is used to seal a joint cavity between two surfaces, at least one of which may be of concrete, by pressing the strip into the cavity. The strip prevents or minimizes the passage of water or moisture through joints between concrete, brickwork, masonry, stonework, metal, plastics, timber or other materials used in construction.
