A toy gun contains a removable unit that simulates a magazine, this unit containing a cap firing mechanism operated by a depressible member arranged so that when the unit is inserted in the gun, the member can be depressed by operation of the gun trigger. The toy may sumulate an automatic pistol of the type in which a magazine or clip of cartridges is inserted in the butt, wherein the removable unit is inserted in the butt as shown, the depressible member 20 has pivotally mounted on it a feed finger 25 and this finger is urged by the spring 22 onto the cap strip on the rear wall 18. When the member 20 is depressed by movement of the trigger 11 the end 26 of the finger is forced along the wall 18 so feeding the cap strip upwardly. The caps are detonated by the hammer 30, which is provided at 32 and has a pawl 33 pivotally mounted on the hammer. When the member 20 is depressed, the pawl 33, which engaged by the end 35 of the member 20, and hammer 30 rotate about the pivot 32 against the spring 36. The pawl becomes clear of the end 35 as movement continues, and the hammer returns by spring force to detonate the caps. The removable unit 14 is retained in position by the projection 39 which engages the spring-loaded catch 40, which may be released by depressing the knob 41.
