Abstract

1,116,291. Safety harness. FORD MOTOR CO. 5 Jan., 1967, No. 1259/67. Heading A3V. [Also in Division E2] A safety harness consists of a strap 2 fixed to anchor points 4, 6 and a strap 3 having at one end a plate 8 which can slide along the strap 2 and at the other end a fastening 12 by means of which the strap 3 can be detachably secured to an anchor point e.g. a bar 10. The plate 8 has two slots 8a and 8b, the strap 2 passing through the slot 8a and the strap 3 being connected to the slot 8b by stitching 9. The fastening on the strap 3 consists of a casing 12 in which is mounted a hook 13 which is biased towards the closed position shown in Fig. 2 by a spring 14. The hook 13 can be moved to its open position by rotation of a release lever 15 connected to the hook 13. The strap 3 is connected to the casing 12 by a buckle arrangement (not shown) so that the length of the strap 3 can be adjusted. When the harness is not in use it can. be stowed by hanging the casing 12 on a hook 17 on the roof pillar 5.
