Abstract

1,115,841. Printer control circuits. EXCHANGE TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. 27 June, 1966 [12 July, 1965], No. 29505/65. Heading G4H. Operation of a key A sets C to initiate paper carriage feed, and after a delay B sufficient to allow for letter spacing, D is set to remove a reset signal on E1-E7 and an inhibit signal on counter F so that the latter energizes the diode matrix column lines in turn. Each matrix row corresponds to a print hammer and a diode is provided at positions corresponding to points on a character at which printing by a hammer is to start and finish, alternate pulses on a row line setting and resetting the associated one of bistable circuits E1-E7. The outputs of E1-E7 are pulses of variable duration and enable the associated print hammers to vibrate at 50 o/s. to form the character as the paper moves on its carriage. The part of the diode matrix shown is for the character " E." Gate G detects when printing of a character has been completed (this may be before all 16 outputs of F have been energized) to reset C and D. A space key and delay H sets C for a time sufficient for the desired space to be formed. A separate key is provided for carriage return and line feed.
