Abstract

1,115,475. Bearings. TIMKEN ROLLER BEARING CO. 14 June, 1965 [12 March, 1964], No. 10604/64. Heading F2A. A cage has a plurality of apertures 22, each with side surfaces 29, 30, a deformable tongue 31 with a surface 23 being initially positioned to allow insertion of a roller into the aperture from one side of the cage, and then being displaced to bring surface 23 adjacent a roller end surface, so that the retaining surfaces together prevent the roller being removed from the one side of the cage. In Fig. 3, the aperture has a further three spaced retaining surfaces 24, 27, 28 to prevent removal of the roller from the other side of the cage. Alternate apertures are inverted to accommodate crossed tapered rollers. In Fig. 4 (not shown) surface 24 is formed on a movable tongue opposite the tongue with surface 23. The cage is formed from sheet metal strip.
