An electric continuous flow heater comprises two heating elements which are separately controlled by two pressure switches 5, 8 operating consecutively as the flow increases, the second switch also controlling an additional flow passage 11. Water enters the heater via a pressure reducing valve 13 and a throttle 3 in the inlet passage 1 to the heater and flow is controlled by a tap 12 on the outlet side of the heater. The pressure switches have either snap action diaphragms 6, 9 or in a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), rubber diaphragms (see Division H1).
