Abstract

1,114,465. Metal strip feeds; winding and unwinding. STEPHAN-WERKE G.m.b.H. & CO. 2 Nov., 1966 [2 Nov., 1965], No. 49232/66. Headings B3E and B3W. In a method of blanking out dynamo laminations and the like from strip material, the width of which is an integral multiple of the width of the individual parts to be produced, the strip is passed through the same blanking tool with its two ends leading alternately but always in the same direction and between successive passes, the portion of strip to be blanked is guided under the tool by relative transverse displacement between the strip and the tool by an amount equal to the working width of the tool. An apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a press 1 and a stand 4, supporting a beam 5 mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis and having two spindles 6 on which are carried two separately driven reels 7, 8. The end-plates 9 of the reels are axially adjustable. A second stand 10 supports a guide roller 11. Operation.-Strip 13 is drawn from the reel 8, over the guide roller 11, through the tool 3 and is wound-up on the reel 7. The positions of the reels are then inter-changed by rotating the beam 5 about its pivot and the end plates of the reels are adjusted to bring a fresh portion of the strip under the tool. The press and feed drives are controlled by jockey pulleys 15 and 16 mounted on pivotable switch-controlling arms. In a modification, two blanking tools are mounted in a portal-frame press and operate on opposite edges of the strip simultaneously being displaced towards the centre of the strip after each pass. In this case the width of the strip is an odd-number multiple of the component width and on the last pass only one tool operates.
