Abstract

[Also in Division D1] In up-twisting apparatus for combining at least three threads and having at least two superposed hollow spindles 8, 9, the core-thread is drawn from a supply 5 arranged above the outlet of the lower spindle 8 and permitting the regulation of the tension of the thread. For such an arrangement it is possible to adapt, as the supply means, the take-up means of the lower spindle of a known uptwisting machine which has superposed banks of spindles for combining two or more yarns. The core thread 2 reaches the lower spindle over two pulleys 6, 7 which divert it over two oppositely-directed paths; it passes through the lower spindle where it is combined with a first thread 3 drawn overend from a package on the spindle. The combined threads then pass through the upper spindle rotating oppositely to the first, where they are combined with a third thread 4 to provide a yarn having a crisscross arrangement which is wound on a take-up 13.
